Can you Help? Help is needed for Feed My Starving Children preparation:
Sunday, September 5 ---After church next Sunday, the 5th of September, the trustees need help removing plants and furniture from the back of the sanctuary. The area will be used as a warehouse for Feed My Starving Children supplies.
LABOR DAY, Monday, September 6 ---In order to protect the carpet and tile, we will cover them with plastic and plywood. Labor Day morning (the 6TH) the trustees need 5 additional strong individuals to get and install the plywood. The plan is to finish by noon, in time for picnics and other activities. We will meet at Trinity at 7:30 AM on Labor Day to carpool. Or you can meet us at Whitmore Fence, 126 North Street, (Rte. 13) Dryden at 8:00 AM.
If you can help, please let Holly know at 539-7696 or pthollingsworth@aol.com Thank you.
Elders’ Bible Class starts September 12. The elders will be leading a series of Bible studies this Fall, beginning with the book of Judges. (Stay tuned for future studies!) We meet in the back of the Sanctuary at 9:00 a.m. BibleSong is an intergenerational Sunday School, incorporating songs, stories, and Bible study. BibleSong meets in the fellowship hall at 9:00 a.m.
BibleSong starts September 12. BibleSong is an intergenerational Sunday School, incorporating songs, stories, and Bible study. We will begin with the adults looking at an explanation of Acts, and the children will learn Gospel stories. BibleSong meets in the fellowship hall at 9:00 a.m.
Feed My Starving Children: There are still a few times set aside for packing for members of Trinity. Friday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. And the clean up on Saturday, September 11 at 6:00 p.m. We are asking Trinity members to be there throughout the event so that we might be able to direct people and help manage the house of God. There is a sign-up sheet of available near the entrance, please sign up over the course of the next few weeks so that we have at least two Trinity members during each hour of packing.
Also keep in mind that we are looking for a few more people to help lay the plywood either Wednesday or Thursday night September 8 & 9. We are still looking for more financial gifts to help close the gap which is around $5,000, (although our expectation at this point is that it will come from outside contributors). In addition, we are looking for some people to serve as hospitality folks, and work the registration table. Many of these jobs will be taken by outside volunteers, but we're making them available to Trinity members first should someone feel the call to serve in a specific way.
FMSC T-shirt available! New T-shirts are available - they are $6 each. Cash can be put in the offering plate, or a check can be written to the church. T-shirts are available for as long as they last. The next T-shirt day is scheduled for September 1, but don't feel you have to wait until then to wear it!
The Men’s Prayer Breakfast: There will be no men's prayer breakfast in September. We reconvene on October 9th. We meet at 8:00 a.m. for book study, discussion, breakfast, and fellowship! We will not meet in September due to the FMSC event. The men have begun a new video study on creation. The study is entitled "Out of Nothing: The Word, Creation and Faith." It includes a thorough explanation of the many views held by Christians and non-Christians about the origin of the earth in the universe. It also provides some compelling evidence to reconsider evolution, and instead consider a young earth and the creation account as recorded in Genesis. It helps us see the ramifications of compromising faith by embracing another faith. For more information, click the picture on the left. This is a great time to begin this study and fellowship if you have not already participated. Typically the schedule is 8 to 8:45 a.m. breakfast and fellowship; 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. the study; 9:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prayers, (cleanup follows). Free will offerings are typically taken to offset the food, but right now the balance is healthy!
The Chesterton House and Campus on a Hill are sponsoring an exciting event on Wednesday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. “The Worldviews of Great Scientists”, with speaker Dr. Henry Fritz Schaefer. Andrew Dickson White (the first president of Cornell) advanced the idea that science and Christianity were in a state of warfare. Although some scientists also hold this view, a number of distinguished scientists now hold the opposite view – that science and Christian faith are compatible and complementary. This lecture is free and open to the public. It will be held in Call Auditorium in Kennedy Hall on Cornell Campus.
Christy’s Corner: Christy Dendis’ shop is open for the new season. The gift shop is restocked and she has added some new items this year. She also hopes to have some vegetables available. Everyone is welcome to come out and visit! Feel free to call ahead if you are looking for something specific. Hours are 11 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Saturday. Directions are posted in the narthex. (Don’t worry about the road repairs near her house; the detour is short and well marked!)

This is a wonderful outreach and a lot of fun. A limited number of free tickets are available to booth workers. A sign-up sheet is in the narthex. Cost is $60 for the day, or $170 if you stay over night. For more details, see flyer in the narthex or contact Pioneer Camp: 716-549-1420; info@pioneercamp.org; www.pioneercamp.org.

Volunteers are needed to serve as ushers on non-communion Sundays. Responsibilities include arriving a little early to hand out bulletins as folks enter the Sanctuary, collecting the offering, counting the number of people in church (usually accomplished during the offering collection), and tidying the pews after worship. More details are available from an Elder or in the binder under the Trinity bulletin board in the narthex. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board.
Other opportunities to serve include hosting coffee hour (see the folder in the narthex for details), reading the Scripture lessons (contact Clif Pollock or the church office to volunteer), and purchasing flowers for the altar (sign up sheet near kitchen door).
If you would like to purchase flowers for the altar: please sign up on the big sheet next to the drinking fountain. You can request a dedication on the chart or by contacting the church office at tlc@trinityithaca.org. The price is $20.00 per arrangement, and you pay by making a special offering in this amount. Please clearly mark your donation with your name and memo “flowers.” You may take the arrangement home with you after the worship service, but please return the vase to the kitchen when you are finished with the flowers, as they get reused.
